Beatles Tunes Rock Academy At Thursday Concert

It was a picture perfect evening for the concert series, which is put on by EG Parks & Rec every Thursday through Aug. 4.

Music was everywhere , with small acts playing up and down Main Street for the monthly stroll and Abbey Rhode, a Beatles tribute band, playing a bit later at Academy Field.

It was a perfect night to sit back and enjoy the music and many people did, some with chairs, blankets and whole picnic dinners. Others brought only themselves, pulling up a square of grass. It seemed to provide just the right amount of freedom for children and relaxation for adults.

We have three more concerts to look forward to. This Thursday, it's 5 Flavor Discount, a soul, funk and R&B group. On Thursday, July 28, it's jazz, pop and R&B with the Jennifer Minuto Group. The last concert will be held on Aug. 4 and will feature Avenue A, a swing, dixieland and jazz group.

The free concerts - put on by the EG Parks & Recreation Department - go from 6:30 to 8pm and are at Academy Field unless there's rain, when the concert is moved inside Swift Community Center.

Concertgoers are encouraged to bring chairs or a blanket to sit on. You are discouraged from bringing dogs, but if you do bring Fido, keep him leashed and with you. If you bring young children, the folks at the Rec Department ask that you keep an eye on them.
