Governor, AG Candidates Arrested: 48 Pounds of Marijuana Seized

Anna Armstrong is running as the Compassion Party candidate in Rhode Island's election for governor.

WEST GREENWICH, RI — A candidate for governor whose main platform is legalizing marijuana was arrested after state police said they seized 48 pounds of marijuana at her home.

Rhode Island State Police arrested Anna Armstrong, 58, and Alan Gordon, 48, both of West Greenwich, when police executed a search warrant after receiving complaints about the strong odor of marijuana plants being grown outside.

Police said a 15-year-old was in the house during the search.

Armstrong and Gordon are both charged with marijuana possession of over five kilograms, intent to distribute, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Armstrong is running as the Compassion Party candidate in Rhode Island's election for governor. Gordon is the Compassion Party's candidate for attorney general.

Both Armstrong and Gordon will be arraigned in Kent County District Court Thursday afternoon.
