Destiny Africa Returns to Stony Lane on Saturday

The mult-talented children's choir has toured the world and has become a part of Stony Lane's mission budget.

One of the most profound and inspiring upcoming cultural events in Rhode Island will be this Saturday when the Destiny Children’s Choir returns to Stony Lane Church for a night of singing, dancing, drums, dance, drama and joy.

The children of the choir are Ugandan orphans who now live in the Kampala Children’s Center, an organization founded in 2005 to give a home and voice to children stricken by extreme poverty, disease and the scars of war.

They get a place to live, healthcare, food, education and with the choir, a chance to see the world and rattle people with their stunning talent.

Stony Lane Pator John Wheeler said the concert is β€œlike nothing you’ve seen before.

β€œIf you’ve never seen them, you need to come and experience it at least once,” he said. β€œIf you do, you can’t help but fall in love with the kids and adults who come along with them.”

The church community has fallen in love with the children so much that they’ve added Destiny Africa to the church’s monthly mission budget.

β€œEvery single month, we send money out to the Kampala Children’s Home,” Wheeler said. β€œWe’re literally locked together.”

Whenever the children are touring in the United States, a favorite stop is at Stony Lane. And that’s quite a compliment for a group of performers who have traveled the world, sang for the Queen of England and at the White House.

They are touring across the U.S. this year beginning last month through July.

They’re still opening to booking more performances at colleges, schools, festivals and churches throughout the region, including in Ohio, Illinois, Pennsyvania, New York and New Jersey. If you’re interested in booking a show, email marylou@destinyafrica.org.

The local show is at Stony Lane Baptist Church, 921 Old Baptist Road, North Kingstown.

The show starts at 6 p.m. Refreshments will be served after the concert.
