Doctor Accused of Video Voyeurism Agrees to Stop Practicing Medicine

The doctor, from East Greenwich, was charged for allegedly videotaping a teen in a shower.

The East Greenwich man charged with felony video voyeurism in June for videotaping a teen taking a shower at his house has agreed to voluntarily stop practicing medicine.

William Lee Thompson, 47, of 100 Granite Drive, was arrested on June 8 after he turned himself in to police following an investigation.

An anesthesiologist who practiced in North Providence, Thompson agreed to enter into a voluntary agreement not to practice medicine after a complaint filed by the Rhode Island Department of Health’s Board of Medical Licensure and Discipline.

According to the voluntary agreement, Thompson agreed to give up certain appeal and legal rights in the matter. It also stipulates that he won’t interfere with further review by the board, which could result in a revocation of his medical license.

Thompson’s arrest came after a family member made a complaint on May 6, according to East Greenwich police. Police investigated and determined that he videotaped an unrelated teenage girl taking a shower at his 1000 Granite Drive home.

Thompson was arraigned in Kent County District Court and entered no plea to the charge, which is customary in felony arraignments in District Court. He was released on personal recognizance was due to return to court on July 13 for an attorney general screening conference.

Court records show that Thompson’s case is still pending and on July 18, the judge granted a request for Thompson to leave the state.
