East Greenwich Doctor Charged with Video Voyeurism

Police arrested the 47-year-old anesthesiologist after he allegedly recorded a minor as she took a shower at his home.

East Greenwich police have arrested a 47-year-old doctor on felony charges of video voyeurism.

William Lee Thompson, 47, of 100 Granite Drive, was arrested on June 8 after he turned himself in to police following an investigation.

East Greenwich Police Det. Lt. Jeremy Fague said that a family member made the complaint against Thompson on May 6.

“Mr. Thompson is accused of video taping a juvenile female while that person was taking a shower,” Fague said. “Based upon that he was charged with one count of video voyeurism.”

Thompson is a board certified anesthesiologist practicing in North Providence. According to his biography on the website for the Brain and Spine Neurosurgical Institute, Thompson recently relocated to New England from Denver, Colo., where he got his medical school degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine in 1998.

“He is a board certified anesthesiologist who is published in the field of regional anesthesia. He recently relocated to New England, and enjoys the diversity and history that the area offers. His interests include pain medicine, regional anesthesia, and providing anesthesia in complicated spine cases,” the biography states.

Thompson was arraigned in Kent County District Court and entered no plea to the charge, which is customary in felony arraignments in District Court. He was released on personal recognizance and is due to return to court on July 13 for an attorney general screening conference.

A judge granted permission for Thompson to leave the state on Thursday, June 18, according to court records.
