America's Cup Then & Now

ocky Hill School will host an informational America’s Cup lecture on Tuesday, May 22 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.
 
Brad Read, chair of the America's Cup World Series Rhode Island Host Committee and executive director of Sail Newport and Dyer Jones, member of the America's Cup World Series Rhode Island Host Committee and CEO of the Herreshoff Marine Museum / America's Cup Hall of Fame in Bristol will be speaking about the America’s Cup and the AC World Series coming to Newport this June.
 
Read is an eight-time World or North American Champion as helmsman, has won a dozen East Coast and National Championships, is a two-time All-American Sailor from Boston University and was College Sailor of the Year in 1986.  Jones is a former Regatta Director for three America’s Cup events in Spain and New Zealand, and has participated as a sailor, race official, syndicate member, or administrator in the America’s Cup since 1967.
 
Attendees can expect to learn everything they need to know to make this summer’s AC events more enjoyable.  Read and Jones will talk about the new wing-sailed multihull boats being used for the series events as well as history of America's Cup Sailing that took place in Rhode Island between 1930 and 1983.
