April's Artist of the Month display is a collection of watercolors by Lee Bergwall Hanks – Winner of the Juror’s Award for Artistic Excellence for her watercolor piece “Anenome Blanda & Griegii Tulips” in the Friends of the EG Library Winter’s Eve at the Library Gala, December 2011.
Lee grew up in Amherst, New York where her interest in art started early and developed with great art programs during high school and later at Ohio University. Lee went on to study for her MFA at the State University of New York at Buffalo. During graduate school she studied lithography and intaglio printmaking and worked in those mediums for many years. Those early prints are where her real interest in architecture began.
For the past twenty five years Lee has specialized in watercolor painting, and has focused on the themes of flowers and architecture as subjects, done in a photo realistic style. Elements of her works include attention to detail and ornamentation, light and shadow, abstract qualities and the strength of the composition.
Please stop by to view this exceptional collection during regular library hours April 1 - April 28, 2012.
