Dr. Victor Mecurio, superintendent of schools in East Greenwich, challenged students in his address. He asked them to accept every difficulty or challenge they face in high school and to keep on, even when things are hard.
“Persevere, work hard, keep smiling, after all, people might not remember what you say to them, but they will always remember how you treated them,” Mecurio said.
After students were given their graduation certificates, families and friends mingled in the cafeteria.
Some students, such as Natalie Valicenti, have mixed feelings about the transition from middle school to high school.
“I’m a little sad that I’m going to be changing schools, but I’m also really excited to go to a new school and meet new teachers,” Valicenti said.
Jim Rhodes, father to a graduate, was very impressed with the ceremony.
“I thought the presentations were awesome, especially the student’s presentations; it was all outstanding,” said Rhodes. “The new gym is really awesome too.”
