Japanese Music At EHGS, And More

While the world watches Japan as it slowly recovers from the devastating tsunami and earthquake that happened there last week, there will be a Japanese-themed all-town choral concert at the high school tonight. Janet Breidenbach will lead East Greenwich students in grades 3-12 in Japanese-inspired songs. The concert was planned long before the natural disaster occurred.

The evening’s highlight will be the JapaneseΒ Β taiko drum group β€œOdaiko New England,” sponsored by the Cultural Organization for the Arts (COA) and the Summer Arts and Festival Organization (SAFO).

Why Go: Browse the art for sale while listening to selections from composer Francois Gebauer brought to you by the FBC Chamber Trio. Then catch the FBC Jazz Trio play tunes from Gershwin, Ellington, Mercer, and more. Proceeds benefit the Senior High Class Mission Trip to Washington D.C.

4. FOR β€œA WISH COME TRUE”

Where/When: Alex and Ani Store, 233 Main Street; Friday, 3 to 6 p.m.

Why Go: Feed your need for more popular Alex and Ani bracelets and support a great cause! EGHS senior Rachel-Lyn Longo’s senior project is sponsoring wishes for β€œA Wish Come True Inc.,” a local wish-granting organization that grants wishes to Rhode Island children ages 3 through 18 who are faced with life threatening illnesses. She’s granted one wish so far.

Pricing: 15% of sales will go toward helping Rachel make a second β€œWish Come True."

Where/When: ; Sunday, 4 to 7 p.m.

Why Go: Join the Jewish community in celebrating the Purim holiday with a full catered kosher buffet dinner, live music, dancing, and Lucky Bob's award-winning magic, comedy and juggling show.
