Jigger's Diner Adds Monday Hours

Now open four days a week: Friday through Monday.

diner on Main Street has added an additional day to its schedule and is now open  Mondays from 6am until 2pm  in addition to the Friday through Sunday hours.

The diner was of last year for not paying state sales taxes, but was able to re-open three days a week in December after working out a payment plan.

Owner Iva Reynhout says she is trying out the extra day as she slowly moves ahead  toward being open every day.

Her 1947 36-seat Worcester Lunch Car has been in place just down the street from town hall since the 1950s, but the history of the site as a dining spot goes back to 1917.

Several employees have stuck with Reynhout as she works her way back financially.

Saturday morning Charlie Hopkins was working the grill behind the counter. He moved to East Greenwich around eight years ago and says he has been working at Jigger’s for five or six years.

He started as a dishwasher, learning how to cook on the job.  Now he easily handles the multiple orders handed him by the wait staff.

While waiting for Jigger’s to get back on a full schedule, he also works at Wild Harvest in Benny’s Plaza.

Tom Battista, who waits the counter and booths, came to work when the diner re-opened in December.  He attends New England Tech and also works from time to time at the Crow’s Nest in Warwick.

Memorial Day, with going past right outside, came just in time for the new Monday hours.
