Main Street Prepares for Hurricane Irene
Local Merchants Prepare for the Much Anticipated Storm
With hurricane Irene approaching tomorrow, Main Street merchants are preparing.
The plaza at 500 Main Street is boarded up, but most stores remained open. A representative for Shimmer Salon and Day Spa told EG Patch that the owner of the building came by at 2 p.m., and boarded up the stores. Closed and boarded are Donovan Travel and B & H Framing and East Greenwich Gallery. One door down at Consignors, owner Lynda Peters is not a bit worried.
"I respect it but don't fear it," Peters exclaimed. She will take precautions to protect the store, and will be closed tomorrow, only if Irene stays on its predicted course.

Patrons of the store feel the same way about Irene, and plan to take it as it comes.Â
As for the rest of Main Street, a barber shop has taped up their windows. Even though Symposium Books also taped up their windows at noon, they remained open for the rest of the day.Â

Only one store has a sign in the window saying they are closed because of the weather. The rest of Main Street is still lively and awaits Hurricane Irene.Â
