Main Street Stroll Celebrates Local Art and Culture
East Greenwich residents display artwork and promote their businesses in the first stroll of the year.
Thursday night kicked off the eighth year East Greenwich has hosted the Main Street Stroll. The event supports area musicians, artists, fund-raisers and businesses on Main Street.
Anne-Marie Hobby, a local artist, thinks the strolls are “great for supporting local artists and merchants of East Greenwich.”
Tom Martino, also a local artist, says, “It's a good idea, except they should have Taste of East Greenwich more often.” Taste of East Greenwich is the theme for the August stroll, when Main Street restaurants are featured and people are encouraged to sample many different cuisines. That stroll is usually very popular, packing the sidewalks.

Thursday's stroll was less than packed, but that's to be expected in May, according to Main Street Coordinator Bruce MacGunnigle. Intermittent rain showers probably didn't help.
Bob Mann, an East Greenwich resident and member of the EG Chamber of Commerce for over 14 years, said, “We enjoy it, it's a lot of fun. It's a good opportunity for the people of East Greenwich to get out, and it's great for the city and Main Street.”

Mann has been involved with the strolls through the Chamber of Commerce, and his wife was selling jewelry at Thursday's stroll.
The next stroll is June 9th, 5 to 8pm, and there is one every month through September.
