He asked why a kid getting arrested with marijuana would go to jail but a Wall Street executive gets a raise for damaging the economy. He said the country needed a financial system that worked for small and medium sized businesses and not an "island unto itself."
Speaking about climate change, Sanders said he supports a tax on carbon and called on Hillary Clinton to do the same. He also mentioned Clinton when he spoke about minimum wage saying that unlike Clinton he thinks a $12 an hour minimum wage is not enough.
Sanders also took a jab at the Republicans saying they claim to love family but not the families like the 40 percent who live in poverty in Providence.
He reassured his supporters Donald Trump would not be elected president simply saying, "it ain't gonna happen." He said polls show him beating Trump in the general election and despite that he had faith in the American people.
Other topics Sanders addressed Sunday included healthcare reform, immigration reform and said he would work to restore relations with the Native American community.
He called on voters to go to the polls and vote Tuesday in Rhode Island telling his supporters he wins when voter turnout is high. He said he hoped Rhode Island would have the highest voter turnout in the state's history for the Democratic primary.
After speaking in Providence, Sanders is scheduled to head to Connecticut where he will hold a rally on the New Haven town green.
A Brown poll released Sunday shows Clinton leading Sanders 43 to 34 percent with 16 percent undecided.
With Clinton leading the pledged delegate count by nearly 250, according to AP's delegate tracker, Sanders needs to win 78 percent of the remaining delegates available to secure the Democratic presidential nomination.
Tuesday's primary comes just one week after Clinton handed Sanders a crushing double-digit loss in New York. Voters in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and Connecticut will also head to the polls Tuesday. Pennsylvania is the biggest prize on Tuesday offering 210 delegates.
