East Providence Police Warn Of Coronavirus Scam
East Provience police said they have received several scam calls related to federal coronavirus stimulus payments.
EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — East Providence police are warning of a scam involving the proposed coronavirus pandemic stimulus package. Police said they have received several calls in recent days from residents who were contacted about federal stimulus payments.
Police said these scam callers are asking people for their social security numbers and other personal information in order to get authorization to send a check.
"THIS IS A SCAM," Police warned on their Facebook page.

Residents are advised never to provide your social security number, or other personally identifiable information, over the phone. No legitimate governmental agency will contact you asking for this information.
