5 Things To Know Today: April 29
Mohr art; football & cheerleading registration; PCM hosts a gala; name the penguin chicks; and today in history: The thrill of debut.

Be Art Smart: And if you know this artist, you're already pretty clever. Today's Art Smart activity, at 4 p.m. for kids in grdes 3 to 6, focuses on the work of Jasper Johns. PBS has a great profile of him here.
Register Now: The Johnston Pre-Teen Football and Cheerleading programs continue their registration for kids from 5 to 14 years of age (cutoff birthdate is August 1) tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Fireman's Hall on Greenville Avenue. Thanks to Mom's Council member Rhonda Sasa for the specifics.
PCM Gala: If you're a regular reader — well, let's say 'frequent' reader — of JohnstonPatch, you know we're always listing activities and events at the Providence Children's Museum. You can show some, shall we say, material support for the Museum and its programs tonight starting at 6:30 at its Annual Gala. Tix are $100 per person, with all proceeds going to benefit the Museum. Eat, drink, sing, bid — it's a great night for a great cause. And just this once, no kids.

I'd Suggest 'Tennessee': Today is the next-to-last day of Roger William Park Zoo's Penguin Chicks Naming contest. The little critters — one boy and one girl — were born in January and, poor things, have probably been going by "male" and "female" since then. If you have the winning suggestion, you'll get to meet the youngsters up-close.
Groundbreaking Sports: Just say the words "agony of defeat," and you can picture that poor Olympic skier wiping out. It was 50 years ago today that ABC's Wide World of Sports broadcast its first show. (from brainyhistory.com)
