Girls Softball Opening Day: Johnston Memorial Park is the site for the Johnston Girls Softball League's opening day ceremonies and celebration, starting at 9 a.m.

Easter Egg Hunt: Also at the Park, kids 3 and younger and up to 9 years old can score some sweet treats at the annual Easter Egg hunt, beginning at 9 a.m. Follow the link to find times for each age group.

Meet Mr. E.B.: That's the Easter Bunny, by the way — Roger Williams Park Zoo is hosting two visits on Friday from 1:30 to 3 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 2:30 p.m. Follow the link for ticket prices and times. Build A Birdhouse: Lowe's in North Providence is scheduled to host its latest Build & Grow Clinic on Saturday starting at 10 a.m. Kids can learn to build a birdhouse that will stick to a window so they can watch the birds. Free.

Cemetery Clean-Up: Of course, you could always get outside and do something good for the town, like clean up the local historical cemetries with folks from the Senior Center and the Parks and Recreation Department. Local Performers: This Friday, Alycia Bedrosian (she of fame) and Phil Pinto perform at Bar 101 in Johnston.

Cosmic Bowl: Town Hall Lanes hosts Cosmic Bowl every Friday and Saturday night from 7 p.m. to midnight. There's nothing like beer, bowling, and black lights to usher in the weekend.

Journey Tribute: For the frugal fans, Great Escape, a Journey cover band, will be playing the Lighthouse at Twin River this Saturday. The show starts at 8:30 p.m. and the it's free. They're really not that different than the real thing — after all, each one sends out a guy doing a Steve Perry impression.

New Film Releases:

  • Fast Five, the lastest movie in The Fast and the Furious series, debuts this Friday at several theaters in the area, including Cinema World in Lincoln, and Providence Place Cinema. The latest film stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and Jordana Brewster. 
  • The Cable Car Cinema is showing Super, a story about a differenct kind of super hero. Super starrs Rain Wilson, Ellen Page, Liv Tyler, and Kevin Bacon.
