Great Escape: A Spooky Walk, A Spooky Tour and An Amazing Race
We've highlighted a few events to get you in the Halloween spirit – one right here in Johnston – along with a charity race, furniture and craft show, and music of all varieties this weekend.

Get Ready for Halloween:
- Get out your flashlights because this weekend and next, Oct. 21 to 23 and Oct. 28 & 29, the Johnston Rec. Department is holding Spooky Walk 2011 at Johnston Memorial Park to benefit Johnston Youth Soccer. The Walk is scheduled for 6 to 9:30 p.m. each night, and admission is $6 per person. The Johnston Parks and Recreation website has more details, or you can call 272-3460.
- In keeping with the “spooky” theme, why not try the Providence Ghost Tour? Tour guides will lead you by lantern light through Providence’s East Side and share some ghostly stories based on recorded events and folklore. Tours begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are available online or can be purchased with cash-only in person. Check out the Providence Ghost Tours website for all of the details.
A Variety of Music:
- Grab a pint and a snack and listen to some traditional Irish music at AS220 on Empire Street in Providence this weekend. Enjoy this event every Saturday from 4-7 p.m. There is no cover charge and a full bar and food menu is available. Visit AS220 for more details.
- Enjoy two shows at Lupo’s this weekend. WBRU presents Portugal The Man on Oct. 21 and Hot 106.3 presents J. Cole on Oct. 23. Doors open at 8 p.m. and shows begin at 9 p.m. Check out the Lupo’s website for ticket information.
- If the classics are more your thing, the music of Bach and Biber will be performed on Oct. 23 by violinists Judson Griffin and Margaret Ziemnicka. All concerts take place at 3:30 p.m. on Sundays at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. John on North Main Street in Providence. Ticket information and more details can be found at www.museumconcerts.org.

- If you're feeling charitable this weekend, why not check out the 2nd Annual RI Amazing Wish Race on Oct. 22 at Roger Williams Park? Louie Stravato and Michael Naylor of The Amazing Race, Season 16, will host the event. All proceeds will benefit Children’s Wishes, a local organization working to grant the wishes of local children who are living with a life-threatening illness. If you’re not able to participate in the race, you can purchase a ticket to the event’s after-party being held at Twin River. Check out the group’s website to learn more about the event and how to participate.
Furniture and Craft Show:
- Redecorating this fall and looking for some ideas? The 16th Annual Providence Fine Furnishings and Fine Craft Show on Oct. 21-23 at the RI Convention Center may be just what you need. There will be 75 exhibitors from across the country and all items will be for sale, order and/or commission. For ticket information and more details visit: Fine Furnishings Show.
