Great Escapes: Rock, Aluminum, And Drive-In Movies

Concerts, art exhibits, and a fashion show highlight this weekend's choices.

Rock concerts, a fashion show, a classic movie experience, and a performance art show featuring metal make this weekend's list of events.

  • For those of you who don't want to travel far from home, Neil Donahue will be performing at the this Saturday. Grab a beer and have a listen.
  • Papa Roach visits Lupo's for the "Raid the Nation Tour" this Friday at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25. This show should definitely not be a "Last Resort."
  • Starting May 19th through June 4th, you can check out the Rhode Island School of Design's Graduate Exhibit at the Rhode Island Convention Center. Hours are 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Sunday, except for Saturday, when it is open until 8 p.m. Not only will you get a chance to see great art work, but it's also free!
  • Do you feel like seeing a fashion show? If so, you're in luck. The RISD Apparel Design Department will present its collection for 2011 at Veteran's Memorial Auditorium. Tickets for the event start at $17.
  • If you're looking for something different, you might want to check out "The Aluminum Show" at the Providence Performing Arts Center. The show is a mix of movement, dance, acrobatics, and inanimate objects. Tickets start at $36, with 5 performances scheduled this weekend from Friday through Sunday.
  • Movies are fun, but why not try something different? The Rustic Tri Vue Drive-In in North Smithfield has several movies playing this weekend.
  • Bon Jersey, a Bon Jovi tribute band, will visit the Lighthouse at Twin River this Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. for a free show. If you decide to go, be careful. The floors can be Slippery When Wet.
