Johnston unveils new elementary bus routes to take effect Monday (turnto10.com) — Johnston families should expect new elementary school bus routes starting Monday after last week's delays left some students getting home as late as 7 p.m. Johnston Elementary and Winsor Hill will now have separate, dedicated buses, while high school and middle school routes remain combined, and parents can track buses through the Zm Transportation app. 
2. Stay Out Of These 2 Rhode Island Reservoirs, State Says (patch.com) — State health and environmental officials are warning residents to avoid Oak Swamp Reservoir in Johnston because harmful algae has made swimming, fishing, and even boating unsafe. People and pets should stay out of the water, avoid eating fish from it, and not drink untreated water due to risks ranging from stomach illness to more serious liver and nervous system effects.
3. José Buscaglia: the Puerto Rican sculptor dreaming of a Puerto Rican House of Culture in the U.S. (ctpublic.org) — An 88-year-old Puerto Rican sculptor is quietly turning his Johnston home into the seed of a future Puerto Rican House of Culture in the U.S., with his vast archive stored right in town. Working with the University of Connecticut, he's cataloging decades of art and documents in Johnston to preserve Puerto Rican history and diaspora stories for future generations.
4. Newport spends more per resident on police and fire than any other Rhode Island community (whatsupnewp.com) — Johnston is among eight Rhode Island communities where combined police and fire spending tops $1,000 per resident, according to a new statewide analysis. While Newport leads the list, the report flags high staffing, pension costs, and questions about whether such spending levels are justified given relatively low crime and fire call rates.
5. ACLU: RI Flock Camera Portals Missing Key Details (upriseri.com) — Johnston is one of several Rhode Island communities whose Flock license plate camera transparency portals reportedly fail to list which outside agencies receive shared data. ACLU of Rhode Island's new review says many towns, including Johnston, offer incomplete or hard-to-find information as the state debates stronger, uniform rules for automated plate readers.
