Middletown man to serve 40 years for child molestation, sexual assault (wpri.com) — A Middletown resident has been sentenced to decades in prison after being convicted of multiple child molestation and sexual assault charges, following abuse that occurred between 2023 and 2024. State prosecutors and Middletown police praised the victim's courage in coming forward and stressed that strong sentences can encourage other survivors to seek justice and support.

Rhode Island Foundation awards $290K to Newport County nonprofits (pbn.com) — Two Middletown nonprofits are among more than 50 Newport County groups sharing $290,000 in new Rhode Island Foundation grants. Child & Family in Middletown will aid vulnerable older adults with essentials like rent and utilities, while the Maher Center will run social‑skills workshops for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, alongside funding for food, housing, arts, and youth programs across the region.

RI Education Commissioner shares message for new school year (wpri.com) — Middletown students are heading back to class as Rhode Island's new school year begins, and families are being urged to stay engaged and use available support. The state education commissioner highlights free mental health resources, warns about chronic absenteeism, and encourages parents to ask schools what services can help their children thrive this year.

URI football opens season with high hopes on Friday night at Merrimack (newportri.com) — A University of Rhode Island football player from Middletown is among the in-state athletes hoping to contribute as the Rams chase a third straight strong season. URI opens Friday night at Merrimack with high expectations, deep veteran leadership, and several local standouts ready to step up while renovations continue at Meade Stadium.
