2020 Washington County Fair Canceled Due To Coronavirus
The announcement came after Gov. Gina Raimondo announced that large-scale events will be impossible this summer.

RICHMOND, RI — One of South County's most popular summer events will not be held this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. For the first time in more than half a century, the Washington County Fair has been canceled.
The announcement came after Gov. Gina Raimondo announced that large-scale events such as concerts and parades will be impossible in Rhode Island this summer due to restrictions on crowds. Even as the state begins its phased reopening program, groups will likely be limited to 50 or fewer until late summer at the earliest.
'The Fair Committee was working hard to deliver another amazing fair, but with the safety of our attendees, 4-H and FFA youth, vendors and volunteers in mind, we know this is the best decision for all involved," the event's organizers wrote on Facebook. "Please stay safe and know we will miss you all in 2020, but are looking forward to coming together again August 11-15, 2021."

The committee is working to hold virtual entertainment and contests during the fair week, as well as way to support the non-profits and vendors who rely on income generated by the fair. More details are forthcoming.
