4 RI Ponds, Lakes Get Stocked With Trout, Salmon To Catch
It might be getting cold, but that doesn't mean fishing season is over in Rhode Island.
SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — It might be getting cold, but that doesn't mean fishing season is over in Rhode Island.
Recently, the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) stocked four ponds and lakes in the state with new trout and salmon to catch.
Trout are stocked by DEM each winter to prepare for the traditional opening day that occurs on the second Saturday in April. But freshwater fishing is open year-round in Rhode Island.

An updated fishing license is required for all anglers 15 and older. DEM officials also said a trout conservation stamp is required for anyone wishing to keep a trout or to fish in a catch-and-release or "fly-fishing only" area.
More fishing rules and regulations can be found here. Fishing licenses can be purchased online through DEM's portal.
