When one thinks of the word ‘negative’, one will, typically imagine things of, well...a negative-nature, naturally; however, in at least one instance, ‘negativity’ is a GOOD thing, this in reference to negative-ions. Negative -ions are odorless, tasteless, and invisible molecules that we inhale in abundance in certain environments, such as in the mountains, near a waterfall, at the beach, or even in the shower. It is believed, that, once these, minute-molecules reach our bloodstream, they produce biochemical reactions that increase levels of the mood chemical serotonin, helping to alleviate depression, relieve stress, and boost our daytime energy. Certainly, for many of us, simply being in an ‘uplifting’, beautiful-environment causes us to feel better, but, it’s not, simply, due to the visual-geography or topography; for in some, instances, the air-quality, in such areas, being impacted by these, negative-ions, is contributing to the positive-vibe(s) we experience. ‘Generally speaking, negative ions increase the flow of oxygen to the brain; resulting in higher alertness, decreased drowsiness, and more mental energy,” says Pierce J. Howard, PhD, author of The Owners Manual for the Brain: Everyday Applications from Mind Brain Research and director of research at the Center for Applied Cognitive Sciences in Charlotte, N.C.’ Ions are molecules that have gained or lost an electrical charge. They are created in nature as air molecules break apart due to sunlight, radiation, moving air and water. Negative-ion machines are sold, world-wide, as the effect of the molecules is so beneficial to a person’s well-being, and can aid in depression and gloominess. Fresh air, especially after a thunderstorm, is, typically, filled with these, little-’gems’; hence, the ‘clean and clear’ nature of the air, which, when breathed in, makes us feel better, it does me, at least. Humid-air is filled with the lil’ buggers; explaining why air-conditioning is not well-tolerated by some...myself included, as the AC rids the air of its humidity, and subsequently, the negative-ions. Give me an open-window and a fan, when needed, ANY day of the week! In ending, yes...it is true, that, in most-cases, there exists, indeed, a negative-connotation to the word ‘negative’, yet, there is, at least, ONE exception to this rule bringing with it some, very, POSITIVE-results; proving, once again, that, in life, not everything is at it seems, and, that, one ought NEVER ‘judge a book by its cover’. Just Sayin’...
