Annual Waterman Eco-Challenge encourages all to join
On Saturday, July 18th, beach goers from all over are expected to partake in the various events, as well as honor a local community member.

The 5th Annual Waterman Eco-Challenge focuses on giving back to the community by raising awareness for sun and ocean safety, as well as a newly founded scholarship fund in honor of the late Janice Causey, a local inspiration to the surrounding community. Narragansett Parks & Recreation alongside Narragansett Surf Rescue, are proud to partner with Raw Elements USA, Natural Sunscreen and South County Orthopedics to present this annual event. The event will take place on Saturday, July 18th and is consistently filled with fun and educational experiences for all ages.
The event features a 3-mile ocean paddle race, a 1-mile ocean swim race, and a charity yoga practice in celebration of the life of Ms. Causey. Contestants can compete on either a traditional paddleboard or a stand-up paddle board. Narrow River Kayaks will also be on site if contestants don’t own the proper boards. The paddle route extends from Narragansett Town beach to the Coast Guard House and throughout the length of the sea wall. The swim course will be determined by the Narragansett Surf Rescue team and their target is a straight one-mile course. There will be many vantage points for the public to be able to watch the exciting action.
Aside from the events, various sponsors will be set up on the sand and ready to interact with families, friends and fellow beach goers. South County Orthopedics will be on hand for free Physical Therapy analysis, The World Skin Project will be providing free massage and sunscreen applications along with dermatologist screenings, and Food for Thought will be giving out incredible health conscious food and drink samples. There will be a tent for kids with free face painting and sand art activities. Not to be missed are the educational tents for beach goers to learn all about sun safety with Raw Elements USA and ocean safety with Narragansett Surf Rescue Lifeguards. Sponsors will also be supplying “swag bags” for contestants and various giveaways, samples, and raffle prizes for all other attendees.
