BBQ Competition at South County Hot Air Balloon Festival

The 3rd Annual Rhode Island State BBQ Competition will be judged on Sunday, July 20, at the 36th Annual South County Hot Air Balloon Festival.

Sponsored by the Kansas City Barbeque Society, the competition is expected to attract up to 50 state teams to try for the $1,000 first prize and the right to represent Rhode Island at the Jack Daniels World Championship Invitational Barbeque in Lynchburg, TN in October.

The public is welcome to observe this high-stakes and high-energy challenge and there will be plenty of BBQ available for purchase by Balloon Festival visitors.

The Hot Air Balloon Festival features hot air balloon tethered rides in the early morning on Saturday and Sunday as well as early evening on Friday and Saturday. Roomful of Blues performs at 6:30 pm on Friday, July 18, and Fireworks will go off on Saturday at 9:00 pm. There are also carnival rides, kids' rides and attractions, food vendors, crafters, and more!

Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children 4 and under. A special Family rate for parents and children is $25. Parking is free. RV camping is available on site.
