Carl Shillo of Silverado Plays Narragansett
Member of the seventies band Silverado played the Mariner Grille.
Last Saturday, Carl Shillo played . You may know Carl Shillo from the 1970s band Silverado.
Silverado was formed in sunny California by Shillo and Buzz Goodwin. Three years later, in 1976, they released their first self-titled album. RCA released their sophomore album, Takin’ It All Stride.
In 1981, they released their third and final album on CBS records, and made Billboard charts with their single, “Ready for Love.” Silverado worked with Beatles promotion manager Peter Bennett.

Silverado toured with national acts such as The Byrds and Steppenwolf. After their third album, “Ready for Love,” Shillo and Goodwin decided to call it quits. Shillo tells people that it wasn’t a divorce, but just a legal separation.
In 2008, Shillo and two other original members of Silverado performed together for a scholarship benefit that would help a high school student interested in music go to college. Feeling nostalgic for the good old days, the remaining members decided to get back together.

Joining most of the original lineup are guitarist Ed Bradley and Shillo’s son, Alex. Today, they play 10 shows a year up and down the East Coast, including the Mohegan Sun Wolf Den.
During the band’s offseason, Shillo, who is originally from Norwich, CT, lives in Florida during the winter. He comes back during the summer months and lives in Mystic. He plays solo shows, and last weekend he entertained diners at the Mariner Grille.
While Shillo’s set last Saturday was mostly composed of covers, he did perform two Silverado songs, “Fly Away” and “Too Many Mornings,” which are both from their first album.
Shillo’s voice is similar to Bob Dylan’s at times. He performed a block of Dylan covers, which was quite a treat.
Shillo played solo and used a drum machine as a backup band. He performed two sets, and the crowd loved him, as they danced the night away to Shillo’s versions of Don McLean’s “America Pie,” and other well-known songs.
His solo performance is fun and entertaining. The man’s vocals are powerful and he doesn’t even need a full band to rock out.
To catch a chance to see Shillo live, check out Silverado while they perform this summer. They will be performing Thursday, July 21 in Connecticut at East Hartford’s Town Green.
