Contest: Name That Lamb

Don't be sheepish. Fame and fortune can be yours if you suggest the winning name for Lorraine's baby lamb. Ok, we're kidding about fame and fortune but the prize - Browning Homestead pastured beef and eggs - is priceless.

If you're between 1 and 111 years of age, you are eligible to enter this fun contest sponsored by The Browning family has been farming this land since the mid-1600s and they're running out of names for the baby animals born there.

A bit more than a week ago, Lorraine, one of the farm's sheep, gave birth to a baby girl. Already the baby lamb rivals in size the other lambs that were born a month ago at Browning Homestead. And this lamb is chock full of personality - and mischief.

"She's an escape artist," remarked Roberta Mulholland Browning. Seems the baby lamb ventured out of the pasture at just one day old. When asked how she escaped, Bill Browning laughed, "We don't really know!"

In addition to her independent streak, the lamb has some other unique qualities including a white patch on her head, a trait possibly inherited from her dad's line of Tunis sheep. Dad's name is Mr. T.

Lorraine, the lamb's mother is a South County Special, a hybrid established at Browning Homestead from a combination of Hampshire and Suffolk breeds.

You'll notice that adult sheep have shortened tails. The Name That Lamb Contest baby will have her tail docked, too, so "long tail" names won't work.
