Narragansett
– On Friday, June 22, 2012, athletes of all ages and ability will converge on Narragansett
Beach for the 6th annual Battle on the Beach Wrestling
Tournament.  Beach wrestling is an
Olympic sport that is sponsored on Narragansett Town beach by the Narragansett
Parks and Recreation Department, RI Wrestling Association, and the South County
Youth Wrestling Club.

            Wrestlers and athletes ages 10 to 60
have competed during the past five years. 
This year should be the same level of local and All American competitors
in the youth, High School, and the ever popular and most entertaining Open
wrestling categories.  New comers from
all aspects of martial arts, wrestling, and athletic teams are encouraged to
join in the fun. Beach wrestling is open to all contestants’ male and female,
competing to score 2 points by takedown or push out before their opponents
do.  The wrestlers compete in age
division towards an Ultimate Champion for each group from the winners of the
light and heavy groups.

            Sign up for this year’s beach
wrestling begins at noon at the south end of Narragansett Beach near the sea
wall entrance.  A rules clinic will begin
at 1:30 followed by completion. All entries must have a USA wrestling card and
a $10 entry fee.  Any questions can be
