Flip That 'Switch'!

On choosing 'light' over 'dark' in life...

Sometimes it is the simplest of ‘gifts’ which I am blessed to have that bring me the most pause; the fact that I am able to live in a house whereby I can open a window or shut it back, warding off the weather to ensure my greatest comfort, is a thing I don’t take for granted, knowing that there are those on earth who cannot even do that to keep themselves not only cozy, but safe. Having this type ‘control’ in our lives is a blessing; yet, who of us thinks of this with any regularity ~ the fact that we can open and close windows...press a ‘button’ to regulate the ambient temperature inside our abode...or ‘flip a switch’ to draw on electricity to give us light when the darkness descends upon on each evening? It’s such a simple action; yet it presents such profound result ~ light instead of darkness. There are other forms of ‘darkness’ that infiltrate our lives ~ the difficulties one is faced with in his or her life can bring about a ‘pall’ which will take one out of the ‘light’ when he or she continues to ‘choose’ a more dimly-lit way. Of course there are ‘moments’ in life which challenge us to stay strong and to be happy; however, they mustn’t be permitted to ‘control’ us, overall, with respect to our emotional well-being; for it is we who have the ‘power’ to put pain in its place...we who must ‘flip the switch’ in our minds and spirit to bring ourselves out of those ‘dark’ places and back into the ‘light’. Grief, agony, and ‘unhappy’ times will weave themselves in and out of our lives over their course, and we must figure out ways in which to suffer them well, not allowing these aspects of life to define who we are. Naturally, if one owns a ‘belief-system’ in which he/she can ‘give to God what is God’s’ and avoid bearing the brunt of challenging times on his/her own this is one way to avoid dwelling in a ‘den of darkness’; but each of us must find SOME way to ‘find our way’ out of the dark-times however that may be, and we MUST do so to bring the ‘light’ back into our lives. Sometimes this can come via a change of thinking...a change of heart...the ‘flip’ of an internal switch, and though it may seem difficult to do it is not; for it is as easy as making a new choice...opting for an optimistic approach to assist us rather than allowing ourselves to remain burdened. Having the ability to make this type decision of ‘taking back’ one’s happiness is a gift in it’s ‘own right’ and another which I appreciate as a great blessing. Yes, it takes time and practice to ‘master’ the art of overcoming the worst things that life presents to us; but it is a thing WELL worth the effort put forth. Just Sayin’...
