Head Start Recruitment Drive Set for Aug. 1

WAKEFIELD – South County Community Action Head Start will be hosting a recruitment drive on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015, from noon to 3 p.m. at its North Kingstown location, 415 Tower Hill Road.

South County CEO Joseph DeSantis recently announced that renovations to the Tower Hill Road building will be completed in time for the Sept. 14 opening of the 2015-16 Head Start year.

“This event will give parents the chance to see the ongoing work we’re doing to prepare the building, and to speak with Head Start staffers about this early education program,” DeSantis explained. “We have several spots available, so it’s very important for parents to apply now to ensure that their children will be able to attend in the fall.”

Members of the South County Head Start staff and policy council are expected to be on hand to distribute water and juice to visitors, and to speak about the importance of Head Start in preparing young children for school. Parents will be able to schedule future meetings where they can submit the required paperwork and secure enrollment once their eligibility is confirmed.

“Because we run four Head Start locations in South County, we’re looking for parents from North Kingstown and the surrounding area – including South Kingstown, Charlestown, Westerly, Narragansett and Exeter – who are interested in enrolling their kids,” DeSantis said, noting South County’s sites at 1935 Kingstown Road in Wakefield; 4350 South County Trail, Charlestown; and 34 Pond St. in Westerly.
