KDMF and Munroe Dairy raise awareness about impaired and distracted driving this month

KDMF partners with Munroe Dairy this month to remind motorists to drive safetly

The Munroe Dairy Vehicles are unique, artistically painted with cow prints. Their farm fresh milk comes fresh from the cow to their customers door in no more than 48 hours and contains no artificial hormones or antibiotics. Since 1881 they have held true to their philosophy”Some things are better left unchanged.” But this month they are hoping to change one important thing, making the roadways safe. Today for a second year, the iconic company is joining forces with the Katie DeCubellis Memorial Foundation to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and distracted driving. Throughout the month of October thirty Munroe Dairy Vehicles will place KDMF magnets on their fleet of vehicles.

“The auto magnet program continues to be an extremely effective way to generate awareness to thousands and thousands of drivers on our roadways about the consequences of impaired and/or distracted driving, states KDMF Executive Director John DeCubellis. “It is our hope that together without corporate partners such as YardWorks and the Cole Cabinet Company. Inc., will reduce the number of crashes and help to save lives.”

John and Meg DeCubellis know first-hand of the devastating toll impaired driving can have on a family. October 29th, 1999 a drunken driver killed thirteen year old Katie DeCubellis of Narragansett. Since then, the foundation has strived to raise awareness about the dangers of driving under the influence and distracted driving.

Driving under the influence and distracted driving is a dangerous epidemic on America’s roadways. According to the latest Centers for Disease Control statistics in 2010, 10,228 people were killed in alcohol-impaired driving crashes, accounting for nearly one-third (31%) of all traffic-related deaths in the United States.

Those startling statistics have propelled Rhode Island businesses and organizations to team up with the KDMF. AAA Southern New England, Almeida Plumbing, Big Blue Bug Solutions, Cole Cabinets, Del’s Lemonade, Munroe Dairy, SeaScape, Wesco Oil, Yard Works are all participants for the second year in this campaign to help keep the roadways safe.

Each month one or more establishments will place the KDMF magnets on its vehicles helping KDMF to encourage the public to take notice. The goal is to raise awareness and also thank the organizations who are all so willing to donate some space on their vehicles.

“We are so pleased to be participating in the KDMF magnet program for a second year,” states Munroe Dairy General Manager Rick Gregoire. Every day we have thirty Munroe Dairy Vehicles driving throughout the state and this is a great way to help remind motorists to think before they get behind the wheel. As a company we want the roads to be safer for everyone including all of our drivers.”

To date, The KDMF has awarded more than $350,000 in scholarships, prizes and donations.
