A look at some local athletes and sports results with Narragansett ties. The Narragansett girls' team starts the playoffs tomorrow, while the Prout girls are in action tonight.
Narragansett Girls’ Basketball Travel to No. 2 Johnston for Playoffs Thursday
The Division II playoffs start Thursday night for the Narragansett High School girls’ basketball team, as they travel to Johnston for a 7 p.m. tip-off with the Panthers.
Narragansett finished the year 10-8 in Division II play and 10-11 overall, earning the No. 7 seed from the South Division in the playoffs. Johnston is the No. 2 seed from the North Division, finishing the year 14-4 in league play.

The two teams did not play each other this year. Narragansett has struggled as of late, alternating a sweep of Tiverton with loses to division-leading Prout and Rogers.
If the Mariners beat Johnston, they would play 1 p.m. at Rhode Island College in the Division II quarterfinals against the winner of West Warwick and Tolman. For a full bracket, click here.

Cheerleading at Weekend Invitational
The Narragansett High School cheerleading squad will be in action Sunday at the Rhode Island Cheerleading Coaches Invitiational Tournament.
Although the RIIL doesn’t have a location for the event on its schedule, Narragasett head coach Kristen Razza said it would be held at West Warwick High School. Narragansett is tentatively scheduled to perform at 3:30 p.m.
Prout Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball in Playoffs This Week
Both of the Prout schools’ basketball teams are in playoff action this week.
The girls earned a No. 1 seed in the Division II tournament, thanks to a 16-2 division record during the year. They host Burrillville (6-12 Division II) of the North Division at 6 p.m. tonight. The two teams did not play this year.
After , the boys will be heavy underdogs against Cranston West in the state tournament. The No. 1 seeded Falcons and the Crusaders tip-off 6 p.m. Thursday at the Providence Career and Technical Academy. The two teams did not play each other this year.
Degnan Bright Spot in Tough Year for PC Swimming
Freshman Kathleen Degnan completed her freshman year swimming for Providence College with a 2:07.86 in the 200-yard backstroke at the Big East Championship at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. The mark just missed the qualifying finish for the finals, a 2:07.10.
Degnan is a 2010 graduate of Narragansett High School. She is an elementary and special education major, and her father Joseph Degnan is a 1982 graduate of Providence College.
(Brendan) Degnan Starting for Wheaton Hoops
Junior Brendan Degnan is averaging 10.1 points per game for Division III Wheaton College. Degnan is a Narragansett resident and a graduate of Bishop Hendricken.
Degnan has played in 24 games for Wheaton, starting 23. The six-foot guard is averaging about two assists and a steal per game. Wheaton is 8-16 overall.
Connery Playing Regularly for Curry
Junior Michael Connery, a Narragansett High School graduate, is averaging 6.9 points per game for Division III Curry College.
Connery has played in 25 games, starting 12 at guard. He is averaging about an assist per game, and 1.6 rebounds. Curry has struggled this year, and has an overall record of 4-21.
URI Club Hockey Team Moves on to Nationals
Thanks to a 4-3 win over Delaware last week, the URI men’s club hockey team is headed to nationals in Delaware, according to The Providence Journal.
The Rams, seeded No. 7, will play against No. 10 Penn State at 2 p.m. Saturday. In the regular season, the Rams took three of four from Penn State.
Former Narragansett Running Association Members Wins Marathon
Zachary Kudlak, a 28-year-old resident of Newburg, NY, won the HRMMC Winter Marathon on Feb. 20 with a time of 2:41:33 – a 6:10 pace. Kudlak has run in the past with the Narragansett Running Association.
Younger DeBlois, Bennett Playing for Michigan Hockey
Derek DeBlois, the younger brother of Brendan, is currently logging ice team for the Division I Michigan Wolverines. DeBlois is a Narragansett resident, but prepped at the Hotchkiss School in Connecticut and John F. Kennedy High School in Iowa.
In 18 games, DeBlois has a goal and five assists. Historically, the Wolverines are one of the stronger programs in Division I, with an overall record of 23-9-4.
Also on Michigan is Mac Bennett, another Narragansett resident that prepped at the Hotchkiss School and John F. Kennedy High School. In 22 games, Bennett has a goal and seven assists, along with 17 penalty minutes.
Older DeBlois Starting for Denver Lacrosse
Brendan DeBlois, the older brother of Derek, is currently playing as a redshirt junior for the University of Denver men’s lacrosse team. DeBlois went to the Hotchkiss School for high school but is a Narragansett resident.
Denver plays Division I lacrosse and is currently ranked No. 16. The team is 1-1. DeBlois is tied for the team lead in groundballs.
Trenteseaux Playing as Freshman for Bryant
Zachary Trenteseaux is a freshman infielder for the Bryant baseball team. Trenteseaux went to high school in Lincoln, but according to Bryant, his parents live in Narragansett.
In four games and 11 at-bats, Trenteseaux is hitting .273, with a run batted in and a run scored. The Bulldogs are 3-3 in Division I play so far.
