Name For New Compassion Dog For South Kingstown Police Narrowed To 4
Do you want South Kingstown police's new compassion dog to be named Archie, Leo, Murphy or Jackson? See how to vote.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — Last month, South Kingstown police welcomed a new canine critter to the force and asked the public to help name its new compassion dog.
Since then, police received nearly 1,000 suggestions for names and have narrowed it down to four choices for the 7-week-old pup. So now, it's your chance to pick the winner from the four finalists: Archie, Leo, Murphy or Jackson?
South Kingstown police launched a poll and included reasons for why they like each name. They include:

- Archie — "Archie means genuine and bold."
- Leo — "Leo means law enforcement officer, and he's one of us."
- Murphy — "Murphy's Law means that something unexpected could happen."
- Jackson — "Jackson is a former SK public safety member who was killed in the line of duty serving with the Dallas, TX PD."
The department was recently gifted the Bernedoodle puppy from Cove Angels Breeding. The pup will be trained as a compassion dog once he's old enough for police to bring him home.
"In addition to donating the puppy, they are also providing his early training," police said in a statement. "We are grateful for their kindness and appreciate their generosity! This little guy is going to have a big job, and we have also received funding from AT&T to support our compassion dog program and ensure that he has what he needs to provide support to our officers and serve our community."
