Pier School Students Qualify for National Contest

Five Narragansett Pier School 7th and 8th graders qualified for the National History Day Contest held at the University of Maryland.

16 Students from the Narragansett Pier School were honored at the National History Day in Rhode Island Award Ceremony on Monday night held at the Winman Junior High School in Warwick. Among them were top finishers and Merit Award winners.

In addition, 5 students from the Pier School qualified for the National Contest held June 12 – 16. The Kenneth E. Behring National History Day Contest is the final stage of a series of contests at local and affiliate levels. The contest is named for Mr. Behring in recognition of his support of National History Day (NHD).

Each year nearly 3,000 students and their parents and teachers gather at the University of Maryland, College Park for the week-long event. These enthusiastic groups come from all over the United States, Guam, American Samoa, Department of Defense Schools in Puerto Rico, and international schools in China, Korea, and South Asia. The NHD excitement can be felt across the campus. After spending months on project research and preparation, and competing at local and affiliate contests, these students are eager to show their hard work at the national level.
