Police Log: A Rowdy Thanksgiving

On Thursday, November 24 around 9:30 p.m. South Kingstown Police officers were called to a Rodman Street residence for a report of a domestic disturbance in progress.  The officers arrived on scene and found Keith Souza, 50, of 293 Rodman Street, as well as a variety of men’s and women’s clothing strewn about the yard.  Officers also discovered the remains of a Thanksgiving Turkey on the hood of a car, and went in to speak with Sousa about the disturbance.  

The officers entered the home, where they found an array of broken glass and food littered about the kitchen as well. After a brief investigation officers determined Sousa was the alleged aggressor in the incident and placed him under arrest.  He was taken to SKPD and charged with domestic disorderly conduct and domestic simple assault, both misdemeanors, and held for the night.

The next day, officers were called once more to the same residence for a report that Sousa was back on the property after his arraignment at Fourth District Court. He was located and taken to SKPD once more, this time for violation of a no-contact order that was only hours old. 

Teen Cited For Procurement

On Saturday, November 26 around 12:32 a.m. officers were dispatched to a Hathaway Lane residence for a report of a loud party.  The officers arrived on the scene and found a large amount of vehicles parked along the driveway and on the property, along with various empty containers of alcohol strewn about the front porch and the bushes.  The officers tried several times to get the attention of the partygoers by knocking on the door, and eventually made contact with several party-goers.  This led them to the host, Bradford Hathaway, 18, of 32 Hathaway Lane, who admitted he had bought some of the alcohol for the attendees.  Police cleared the residence and took several photographs of the home. Hathaway was issued a Fourth District Court summons for procurement of alcohol for minors, a misdemeanor, for December 8. 

Arrests and Citations

On Tuesday, November 22 around 2:40 p.m. an officer on patrol in the area of the South Kingstown observed a 17-year-old South Kingstown male entering and exiting a house known to him to have been involved with drug activity in the past.  Once the juvenile exited the home the officer made contact with the youth, who voluntarily entered a police cruiser to answer some questions.  The youth was then searched, and the officer located a small amount of suspected marijuana. The youth was taken to SKPD, processed, and later released to the custody of his parents. 

On Wednesday, November 23 around 5:20 p.m. an officer on patrol on Shannock Road noticed a car known to him to be driven by someone with a suspended license.  The officer performed a traffic stop and made contact with driver Jazmond Reels, 21, of 103 Church St. in South Kingstown and passenger Amanda Knowles, 19, of 25 Hunt Ave. in Wakefield.  Reels was arrested for driving with a suspended license on Wednesday and a search of the car yielded a pill later identified as an illegal stimulant without a prescription and a small amount of suspected cocaine. Knowles was warned that a warrant would be issued for her arrest if lab tests came back positive on the illicit substances. Reels was taken to SKPD, processed, and later released with a Fourth District Court summons for December 8.

Brandon T. Ring, 21, of 138 Woodville Alton Road in Hopkinton was arrested on Wednesday, November 23 around 4:20 p.m. on an active bench warrant for failure to appear in Fourth District Court after a traffic stop at the Peace Dale rotary.  He was taken to SKPD, processed, and later released with a Fourth District Court summons for December 29.

On Thursday, November 24 around 9:10 a.m. police officers responded to a South Kingstown residence for a reported assault, two brothers fighting.  The officers arrived at the scene and found the scene had been calmed down.  Inside the home police found a beam scale with a South Kingstown High School property sticker, at which point a 15-year-old male subject admitted he had stolen it from the school.  Police also took photos of the victim’s injuries, which included a significant amount of swelling on one side of the face.  The youth was taken into custody and charged with simple assault and misdemeanor larceny. Officers also collected evidence of potential drug use from the youth’s bedroom, which was in plain sight when they arrived.

Samantha S. Browne, 41, of 159 Maplewood Dr. in East Greenwich was arrested for driving with a suspended license on Thursday, November 24 around 11:15 a.m. after a traffic stop on Tower Hill Road.  She was taken to SKPD, processed, and later released with Fourth District Court summons. 

Henry L. Johnson, 45, of 63 Greenmeadow Circle in North Kingstown was arrested on Friday, November 25 around 8:35 p.m. for driving with a suspended license after a traffic stop on Church Street.  Johnson was taken to SKPD, processed, and later released with a Fourth District Court summons for December 9. 

Susan R. Jones, 63, of 1187 South Rd. in South Kingstown was cited for driving with an expired license on Friday, November 25 around 3:00 p.m. after a traffic stop on Mooresfield Road.  She was issued a Fourth District Court summons for December 8 and allowed to leave the scene. 

Julia Martin, 21, of 6 Middlebridge Rd. Apt. B in Narragansett was arrested for domestic simple assault on Saturday, November 26 around 12:50 a.m. after police were called to a Cleveland Street residence for a disturbance.  Martin was determined to be the alleged aggressor and taken to SKPD.  She was processed and secured in a cell for the night. 

Elizabeth C. Anderson, 19, of 223 Mautucket Rd. in South Kingstown was cited for possession of an alcoholic beverage by a minor after police were called to her residence to investigate complaints of a loud party.  Anderson assisted the officers with clearing the residence and was issued a Fourth District Court summons.

Gary Barnes, 54, of 480 High St. in South Kingstown was arrested for possession of an illegal knife on Saturday, November 26 around 9:32 a.m. after a traffic stop on Kingstown Road in Peace Dale.  Barnes was taken to SKPD, processed, and later released with a Fourth District Court summons for December 8. 

Jacob P. Clauson, 20, of 408 Walmsley Lane in South Kingstown was arrested for driving with a suspended license on Saturday, November 26 around 4:23 p.m. after a traffic stop on Broad Rock Road.  He was taken to SKPD, processed, and later released with a Fourth District Court summons for December 8.

Allen L. Hazard, 23, of 487 Ross Hill Rd. in Charlestown was cited for driving with an expired license on Sunday, November 27 after a traffics top on Route 1 around 9:20 a.m. He was issued a Fourth District Court summons for December 8 and allowed to leave the scene. 

Incidents

On Friday, November 25 around 9:30 a.m. an officer was dispatched to a Helme Road residence for a report of larceny from a motor vehicle.  The officer arrived on scene and spoke with a resident who stated an XM Satellite Radio receiver had been taken.  The investigation remains open.

On Saturday, November 26 around 6:00 p.m. an Oak Street resident approached an officer on patrol to notify him that someone had gone through his vehicle.  The victim’s wallet, $250 cash, and a driver’s license had been taken.  Earlier in the day, Police responded to a nearby home to investigate the theft of a vehicle, a Hyundai Azera.  Police are also investigating a theft of a Garmin GPS system from a vehicle that had been parked on Prospect Ave. The stolen vehicle has been entered into the police database as stolen and the investigations remain open.
