Registration Due June 15 for Children's ADVENTURES IN SPACE Program at Frosty Drew Nature Center & Observatory, June 29 - July 3
Space educator Dave Heshion brings his five-day space odyssey to Frosty Drew this summer for students presently attending grades 1-5.
Does your child want to build a rocket? Explore the solar system and beyond? Have a picture taken while wearing a shuttle flight suit and helmet? Space educator Dave Heshion brings his five-day space odyssey to Frosty Drew this summer for students presently attending grades 1-5. From Monday, June 29 through Friday, July 3, Adventures in Space allows children to explore the solar system, the mechanics of flight, life aboard a space station, and more. Students design their own star wheels for gazing, Mars base or Space Station, and build their own rockets that will launch on the final day of the program. This afternoon program begins at 1:30 pm and ends at 4:30 pm. The program and materials fee is $120, and registration is due by June 15.
Dave Heshion helps young students discover answers to the following questions: Why do we go into space? What do space travelers do when they get there there? Why should space travel continue? Dave Heshion has a long history of educating children about space. When Christa McAuliffe was chosen to be Teacher in Space in 1985, he helped talk-show audiences develop questions about her upcoming flight. On the day the space shuttle Challenger carrying Christa McAuliffe and other astronauts exploded, he decided to provide an educational program based on the theme “There is no limit to what you can do.” Since March 1986, Dave Heshion has traveled to over 3,000 schools, visited 12 states, and spoken to over 1 million students and adults.
