Release: RI Foundation Honors Wakefield Resident For Dedication To Improving RI
James Aukerman was one of four RI residents honored at the Convention Center.
Providence - At the Rhode Island Foundation's annual meeting at the Rhode Island Convention Center on June 1, 2011, Chairman David Hirsch and President Neil Steinberg welcomed more than 400 donors, community leaders, grant recipients, and stakeholders to recognize several remarkable Rhode Islanders who have shown tremendous leadership and dedication to improving our state and the quality of life for others through their philanthropy and community engagement.
“The Foundation can only do its work thanks to the vision of our donors, the incredible work of our grantees, the guidance of our professional advisors and the support of community leaders. We appreciate the opportunity to gather our partners in one place, to say thank you, to recognize their accomplishments and agree that Rhode Island holds tremendous promise and unlimited potential,” said Neil D. Steinberg, president and CEO of the Foundation.
Inspiring Partners Award: Dotty and Sandy McCulloch
The Foundation honored philanthropists Dotty and Sandy McCulloch of Barrington with its Inspiring Partners Award. Established in 2003, the award recognizes individuals who have inspired others with their personal commitment to philanthropy and thoughtful approach to grantmaking. Dotty and Sandy were recognized for their deeply committed efforts to shape a better future for countless Rhode Islanders, most notably in the area of education. The Harold B. Soloveitzik Professional Leadership Award: James V. Aukerman
James V. Aukerman of Wakefield received The Harold B. Soloveitzik Professional Leadership Award, established for the beloved Westerly lawyer who exhibited an enduring commitment to philanthropy throughout his career. The Foundation presents this award annually to a professional advisor who shares this enduring commitment. Jim, founder of James V. Aukerman & Associates, was recognized for the personal value he places on both practicing and promoting philanthropy in Rhode Island. Watch a video about James Aukerman.

Community Leadership Award: AS220 and Bert Crenca
The Foundation also awarded the second annual Community Leadership Award to AS220 and Bert Crenca, recognizing the role the Providence organization and its artistic director have played in creating a place for artists to exhibit, perform, or create original artwork.
