UPDATE: Rescuers Respond to Report of Missing Snorkeler in Narragansett

Initial reports are that a young female was snorkeling with her father off Newton Rock.

The Narragansett Bay Marine Task Force has been activated after a report of a missing snorkeler in Narragansett.

The missing person is reportedly a 14-year-old girl who was snorkeling with her father off Newton Rock along a portion of Narragansett’s rocky coast, according to early reports.

Crews from Newport, Jamestown, Narragansett, Warwick and the Rhode Island State Police, along with the Union Fire District have responded to the area at around 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Additional units, along with the U.S. Coast Guard responded soon after.

The girl was last seen in the area between Bass Rock and Newton Avenue.

The search has included a helicopter, numerous boats and divers.

No official information has been released.
