For Immediate Release - October 21, 2015 – Decoding Dyslexia RI announces its collaboration with Rhode Island Advocacy for Children to organize and informative evening with top experts speaking on what challenges the state
of Rhode Island faces when it comes to serving students with language based learning differences. This
event will be held at:
Warwick Public Library, 600 Sandy Lane, in Warwick, RI

Rhode Island Advocacy for Children educates, supports, and empowers families to be equal
partners in the education of their children who have learning disabilities. Positive changes are
made by educating and collaborating with key stakeholders at our community, state and
national levels.
Decoding Dyslexia – RI is a grassroots movement driven by Rhode Island families concerned about
limitations & educational interventions surrounding Dyslexia within our public schools. We aim to raise
dyslexia awareness, empower families to support their children and inform policy-makers on best
practices to identify, remediate and support students with dyslexia in RI public schools. We are the 34th
State to join the movement across the nation!!!
Mission: We are advocating for Rhode Island to implement the following:
• Mandatory teacher training on dyslexia, its warning signs and appropriate intervention strategies
• Mandatory early screening tests for dyslexia

Mandatory dyslexia remediation programs that have been scientifically proven to be effective, which can be accessed by both general and special education populations • Access to appropriate assistive technologies and accommodations in the public school setting for students with dyslexia.
