Rhode Island Man seeks to establish a global Library of Human Community, Culture and Behavior
Joseph Santiago, a Rhode Island resident, has started a Kickstarter campaign to establish a global digital library of people's lives.
Joseph Santiago, a Rhode Island resident, has started a Kickstarter campaign with global reach. His idea demonstrates how demonstrates how the library as an institution is being transformed in the digital age. Joseph seeks to create The Library of Human Community, Culture and Behavior as a black box archive. That means that this library would receive digital media for its collection and secure this media offline in a secure location without inspecting what is being admitted. This black box library archive will be holding onto what people submit and not allowing it to go public for 100 years.
Digital media collected together from a few people make a time capsule. Digital media collected together from a global population constructs a foundation for a library of experiences and stories. Joseph believes that this is what makes this library different than many other collections. The mission and purpose of this project is an innovative opportunity for social change through the arts in Rhode Island. To check out more of this project on Kickstarter go to http://kck.st/1DIJCqF

The Library of Human, Community, Culture and Behavior will seek to establish and grow its collections to present us an opportunity to understand larger social issues and ourselves in a cultural and historical context. As human beings we live and breathe in cultural worlds that are constantly surrounded by data and experience that calls for analysis. As we cope with the different situations and episodes of our lives, we are engaged in the act of understanding, interpreting, and imagining a constantly changing world that is filled with relationships and competition with others. How we make sense of this constellation of being is a form of qualitative inquiry and that is what the Library intends to bring together by amassing the collective knowledge of identity, historical events, and social interactions through all that is shared with us.
To ensure this inspires people from all backgrounds, cultures, and nationalities, and diverse socioeconomic status, we will use the honor system to support and sustain our collections. The suggested price is $40.00 US dollars per USB drive sent to us to be added to the collections. We will ask that each person pay the monetary value they can and/or what they think is fair.
