Scarborough Beach Safe for Swimming Again

The beach, along with two others, was closed to swimming on Tuesday after heavy rain Monday.

Scarborough State Beach in Narragansett and Easton’s Beach in Newport have been reopened to swimming after the most-recent water quality tests by officials show that bacteria levels have fallen to within acceptable limits.

The state Department of Health recommended that the beaches be closed to swimming on Tuesday after bacteria levels shot up following a dose of heavy rain on Monday.

That rain led to runoff, which causes spikes in bacteria levels throughout Narragansett Bay.
