SK Resident Earns Legion of Merit Award After 29-year Military Career
LTC Richard Kaley was honored on Friday with the award at the Rhode Island National Guard's Command Readiness Center in Cranston.

South Kingstown’s LTC Richard Kaley has just wrapped up a 29-year military career serving his country and fellow Americans.
On Friday, Col. Christopher Callahan, the incoming Adjutant General of Rhode Island and Commanding General of the Rhode Island National Guard, presented LTC Kaley with the Legion of Merit at the Command Readiness Center as a small token of appreciation for his years of honorable duty.
The award marks the conclusion of LTC Kaley’s 29-year-long military career and is a well-deserved badge of distinction for outstanding service and dedication.

Kaley served for nine years on active duty as a Field Artillery Officer. In 1995, he transferred into the Rhode Island Army National Guard and served in multiple positions to include:the 103d Field Artillery Brigade, Recruiting and Retention Detachment Commander, United States Property and Fiscal Office and Deputy Director of Logistics, G4.
Kaley deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, where he managed a $34 million budget and worked to improve service member quality of life through construction and expansion projects.

“LTC Kaley’s professionalism and contributions throughout his career significantly enhanced military readiness throughout our organization. I wish LTC Kaley and his family the very best as they transition to a new chapter and will always be grateful for their service and sacrifice,” Callahan said.
The Legion of Merit is awarded to service members in recognition of their exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding service.
