South Kingston Residents Frustrated With ‘Party Houses’
"It has been absolutely miserable," one homeowner recently told town council.
SOUTH KINGSTON, RI – Some homeowners have recently expressed frustration over nearby “party houses” situated along Birth Avenue. Several concerned neighbors addressed members of town council about the issue during public comment at the town's Nov. 12 meeting.
According to Richard Moniz who lives on Altin Ave., students attending the University of Rhode Island are currently renting several of the nearby homes where the parties are taking place, in turn, disturbing neighbors living in close proximity.
“It’s gotten to the point where it’s a blue-collar neighborhood with people with young families, the elderly, people who have to go to working in the morning, and you can’t sleep,” he added. “You just can’t sleep because of the parties.”

“It has been absolutely miserable. My girlfriend and I haven’t been able to have a sound night sleep without wearing earplugs,” Campbell told town council.

According to The Narragansett Times, Town Solicitor Michael Ursillo suggested that the town look into fining students and the landlords for the noise as well as amending the town’s ordinance to get the “issues under control.” South Kingston Police Chief Joseph P. Geaber, Jr. told council members that he has instructed his officers to also hand out citations.
