South Kingstown's Erik Murphy Traded to Boston Celtics

South Kingstown native Erik Murphy was traded to the Boston Celtics Thursday.

The 6-foot, 10-inch Murphy plays forward. He attended the University of Florida and was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in the 2013 NBA Draft. He saw limited playing time and was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Celtics guard Keith Bogans was shipped to Cleveland as part of the multi-player deal involving Murphy.

Murphy, 23, said he’s excited at the chance to play for the Celtics.

“It’s an amazing feeling,” he told WPRI. “I grew up a C’s fan and it’s been a lifelong dream.”
