Spring Ahead For The Kids

Funky, functional or fabulous there is no need to go past the Tower to find great items for you and your home. Discover the treasure and pleasure of shopping locally.

Friends of mine are reporting four-inch sprouts of Daffodils on the south side of their yards already, which means spring is on its way. To prepare the children for April showers and warmer weather, I visited two local consignment stores to rustle up some interesting finds.

At the , 22 Kersey Rd., they carry clothing for newborns to size 18. They also have shoes, accessories and toys. The first pick is a black velveteen jumper, embroidered with roses, accompanied by a matching beret that can help you pretend that Peace Dale is Paris in  the Springtime.

Next up is a pink and purple Nike track suit for your little athlete followed by an adorable hooded raincoat in brown with big pink polka dots. Of course you can't do rain without puddle jumpers. There are some sweet and very different rainboots available. Even though Valentine's Day is over, there is never a wrong time to wear your heart on your sleeve and the store has a very cute dress with hearts galore.

For a retro feel, there is a rain parka in a very 60's look with the psychedelic neon green, lemon yellow, electric blue and orange combination flower pattern. Another cute spring jacket comes in lavendar vinyl with a colorful floral lining. For the boys, there is a bright yellow jacket with primary reds and blues as accents. For the little lady who likes a little more warmth, there is a very pretty pink fleece jacket with faux fur collar that hosts pretty butterflies with sparkly silver trim.

At , 40 Charles St. in the Cherry Branch Plaza (behind Belmont Market), the children's section has some awesome choices available. A bright green vinyl hooded raincoat boasting a very froggy accent awaits the first frog lover to snap it up. For the sophisticated little lady, there is a lightweight gray and pink plaid coat with a floral lining.

Rain boots, of course, are a must for the spring and there are several pairs to choose from. A denim, snap front dress with embroidered floral trim and ruffles is a must have along with an empire waist, zip front,  hoody tunic in a 60's inspired pattern. For the little gentleman, there is a brown corduroy sport coat with patch pockets and embroidered Beagles. Two more Spring jackets available are a girl's hooded raincoat in yellow and pink and a boy's black NASCAR jacket with sponsor patches and red trim.

There will be some styling kids in South Kingstown this Spring.
