Super Bowl Party? Don't Be A Drunk Driver

NARRAGANSETT, RI — The state and local police departments say they will to be out on the roads looking for impaired drivers.

"With Super Bowl parties in full swing this weekend, Col. Ann C. Assumpico, Superintendent of State Police and Director of Public Safety, reminds everyone to celebrate responsibly, arrange for safe rides home and report impaired drivers on the roads," according to the state police's press release.

Local departments are also letting the public know there's no excuse for driving under the influence.

"Super Bowl weekend has become one of the busiest party weekends of the year, Assumpico said, and Rhode Island fans have extra reasons to celebrate this year as their hometown team, the New England Patriots, face off against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday night.

“But 'regardless of which team wins, everyone loses when drunk drivers are on the roads,' Col. Assumpico said. 'That’s why we’re urging everyone to celebrate responsibly and to do their part to keep our roads safe.'”

"Here’s how you can help:

"If you’re hosting a party, offer plenty of non-alcoholic beverages and don’t let guests drive if they appear to be impaired; take away their keys and arrange for a ride home.

"If you’re attending a party, do not drink and drive. Arrange for a designated driver or other safe ride home via taxi, public transportation or a ride-sharing service.

"If you see an impaired driver on the road, call 911 immediately.

“'Our troopers have zero tolerance for impaired driving,' Col. Assumpico said. 'We will be extra vigilant in our patrols this weekend, but we also need your help. Together, we can keep everyone safe before, during and after the Super Bowl.'"
