The controversial homestead exemption would give property owners a break on their taxes if they live in Town 183 days of the year.

NARRAGANSETT, RI -- The homestead exemption is back on the town council agenda for tonight's meeting at 7:30 p.m.
The councilors had debated the issues last summer but tabled the exemption until tonight's session.
The controversy developed after the exemption became tied to a switch from a two-tiered tax system to one-tier, with commercial and residential properties under the same rate.
