20 Cars Torched In Narragansett Fire

Narragansett fire officials say the building and the cars parked behind it burned in a three-alarm blaze.

NARRAGANSETT, RI A three-alarm fire in an industrial building in Narragansett Thursday evening destroyed twenty vehicles. Fire officials say the building is a total loss. Additional crews were called in from around the state to assist in the firefighting effort.

According to the Narragansett Fire Department, the fire broke out around 3 p.m. in 2 Celestial Drive, an industrial building in the town's north end, near the University of Rhode Island Bay Campus. The 6,000 square foot, two-story building was shared by three tenants for automotive repairs, storage and a body shop.

There were people in the building at the time of the fire, but everyone was able to evacuate safely, fire officials say. Crews were on the scene until around 8:30 p.m., and no injuries were reported. Both the building and approximately 20 vehicles parked behind it are considered a total loss.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
