Suspects Hopkins, Kirwin may be involved in a breaking & entering case in Narragansett.

WAKEFIELD — Two men were apprehended in Kingston Friday after detectives from the North and South Kingstown Police noticed them speeding away from the University of Rhode Island's Kingson campus, according to Captain Jeff Allen of the South Kingstown Police.
Around 2:45 p.m. on Feb. 4 two off-duty detectives, Doug O'Brien from South Kingstown and Tyler Dennison from North Kingstown, were leaving the URI campus after participating in the University's "Crime School" when they noticed a car occupied by two individuals known to be implicated in several incidents of breaking and entering throughout the region.
The men were later identified as Adam Hopkins, 23, of 561 Lafayette Road in North Kingstown and Donald Kirwin, 36, of 940 Quaker Lane in East Greenwich. The detectives attempted to follow the suspects' car as it left the Kingston campus but were soon spotted and a chase ensued, according to Allen.

The suspects sped down South Road, tossing various items from the car as they fled. Soon after the chase began the suspect vehicle turned int Browns Farm Drive, and then rammed into a snowbank on East Park. One suspect remained in the car and was placed under arrest, while the other attempted to escape on foot. He was caught soon after.
According to Allen, both men have extensive criminal histories and are possibly involved in several incidences of breaking and entering and burglary in Narragansett and South Kingstown. Hopkins was charged with receiving stolen goods, possession of marijuana, possession of scheduled narcotics (vicodin), reckless driving, obstructing an officer in the execution of their duty, driving with a suspended license, as well as a bench warrant.

Kirwin was charged with receiving stolen goods, possession of marijuana, and possession of scheduled narcotics (vicodin). According to Allen, both men were held overnight and transferred to the ACI in Cranston on Saturday morning.
South Kingstown's investigation is ongoing, and Allen indicated that several items inside the suspect vehicle may match items stolen from a residence in Narragansett. Allen added that police retrieved a checkbook belonging to a URI student, but are still in the process of contacting the individual to determine how it ended up in the vehicle.
