URI Celebration of Patriots Win Features Dumpster Fire

Three students were arrested following Sunday night's rowdy celebration.

KINGSTON, R.I. -- Three University of Rhode Island students were arrested Sunday night after a post-Super Bowl celebration on campus became destructive. Video of the celebration shows students running through campus, tearing down stop signs, throwing traffic cones and lighting fires in dumpsters.

URI Police Chief Stephen Baker said three students were arrested, all on charges of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Two were also charged with fourth-degree arson in connection with the dumpster fires.

Baker added that this year's celebration was larger than in years past, with more than 1,500 students involved. The celebrations began right after the Patriots won, just after 10 p.m., and lasted until about midnight.
